Another Coronation Street character looks set to depart the cobbles after being charged with murder in recent scenes.

Craig Tinker’s (Colson Smith) life was cruelly taken this week when he was attacked while on duty by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton).

The police officer was struck with a baseball bat and later died from his injuries in hospital.

In tonight’s episode, news of Craig’s murder reached the community, leaving the Coronation Street locals devastated.

Among those affected were Craig’s colleagues, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), who both felt a responsibility for Craig’s death.

It was Kit’s feud with Mick that led him to ditch Craig when he was supposed to be mentoring him, and Lisa’s advice to prove Kit wrong that drove Craig into his confrontation with the criminal.

Despite their heartbreak, Kit and Lisa doubled down on finding Mick and bringing him to justice, by first arresting and questioning his wife, Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty).

During her interrogation, Lou insisted she had no idea where Mick was, much to Lisa’s frustration.

However, the fugitive would soon turn up, following a confrontation with Kit that saw him finally arrested and brought to the station.

Having taken Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) hostage and threatening her with the same bat he’d used against Craig, the evidence against Mick was mounting up.

When Kit revealed to Mick that Craig had died, it came as quite a shock, as actor Joe Layton revealed.

‘I think he’s gone beyond the point of no return. I think he feels huge fear and shock, it’s a massive cauldron of emotions.’

In the interview room, Lisa laid out the evidence, encouraging Mick to confess to the crime to save everyone time.

Unfortunately, Mick had other ideas, denying any wrong doing and insisting that any evidence they found had been fabricated by Kit.

With the case being Mick’s word against Kit’s, Lisa pointed out that the only way Mick would get away with it would be if he had an alibi.

Thinking fast, Mick told them he had been with son Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) all afternoon, unaware that he’d just sealed his own fate.

Lisa delighted in revealing that Brody had been in a cell almost the whole day, making it clear that Mick was lying about his whereabouts.

This was all she needed to charge Mick with Craig’s murder, but will the charges stick, or will Mick find a way to wriggle out of it?
