According to the authorities, Smith was driving the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that killed a 77-year-old woman in a crosswalk on a street in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 8, 2025. The local police shared a release that says that the victim, Dorothy Dobbins, was a resident of Nashville and that she was crossing the roadway inside a marked crosswalk on 3rd Avenue North at about 7:30 p.m. when the incident happened.

Dobbins reportedly didn’t live far from where the incident took place. She was subsequently taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment, but she passed away. As per the release mentioned above, “The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.”

Smith, 24, has been active in the music industry since 2021 and is currently signed to Big Machine Records’ Valory label, through which he released Smoky Mountains. The album reached the 42nd spot on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It features 12 tracks, including hits such as “Creek Will Rise” and “I Hate Alabama.” Smith’s wife, Leah Thompson, is a noted professional surfer.

The local police have stated that the investigation into the incident is currently ongoing. At the time of this article’s composition, no charges have been filed against Smith.
