Coronation Street fans are set to get a glimpse into Kit Green’s (Jacob Roberts) childhood as the show airs a special flashback episode next week.

The special episode will take us back to 2007 and delve into the events of Kit’s past and how they shaped him into the mysterious man he is today.

Detective constable Kit hit our screens last year as the biological son of Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), who she gave up for adoption as a child.

Over the past few months, the mother and son have been getting to know each other better, all while Kit settled into his new position at Weatherfield’s police station.

This week, viewers are set to discover that Kit and Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) aren’t exactly strangers, when Kit is forced to question the newcomer after an assault.

However, he chooses not to push too hard in the interrogation room and allows Mick to walk free.

When Mick later confronts Kit, insisting they need to talk, how will Kit react?

‘I wouldn’t say he’s scared, he knows he’s going to blackmail him but Kit’s done that to many characters before,’ actor Jacob Roberts revealed. ‘But it is a past that he doesn’t want to bring up again.

‘I suppose in real life it’s like when you have friends from back in the day and you’d never want them to meet any of your friends of today and you don’t want them to tell the stories of what happened back in the day. You want to keep that sort of stuff secret.’

With younger versions of both Mick and wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty) set to appear in next week’s flashback, it is clear that all three characters have quite the history

The flashbacks also include Mick and Lou Michaelis (Picture: ITV)

‘I was very excited to see the flashback stuff and read the script and see what happened between these two characters, Mick and Kit,’ Jacob enthused.

‘It’s a funny one because it’s obviously a different life that he led back then and he’s changed it around and obviously Mick hasn’t, so it was good to find out what happened.’

Secrets and long-buried traumas will be revealed in the episode, shedding light on Kit’s motivations and the reason for his complicated relationships.

As the flashbacks unfold, it becomes clear that Kit hasn’t always been on the right side of the law, and Mick and Lou’s presence on Coronation Street may prove to be threatening to him…

‘I think it’s unsettled him because he knows that both of them are trouble and he’s obviously trying to keep the peace in Weatherfield so if they’re going to be troublemakers then Kit’s going to have to deal with it.

‘But also he knows they’ve got the blackmail on him and they both know what he was like because he’s no angel. So, he’s throwing stones at glass houses I suppose.’

What truths are set to come out, and could they threaten to destroy Kit?
