Colman Domingo is shrugging off some of the more conservative criticism aimed at his recent appearance in Sabrina Carpenter’s latest music video.

Last week, Colman appeared in the accompanying clip for Sabrina’s new single Tears, portraying a Frank-N-Furter-esque character in an homage to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

As expected, the video has already generated lots of conversation, and at the time of writing, has racked up more than 25 million views on YouTube in just a few days.

However, apparently not everyone is happy with Colman’s appearance in Sabrina’s video.

On Saturday, the Euphoria star responded to one critic who wrote on X: “Hollywood ain’t shit. Colman Domingo is a solid actor. He’s gay as well so I figured he’d be highly backed. But nope!

“Guess he was too manly even for a gay man. Had to put him in drag in Sabrina carpenter’s video huh? Bullshit!”

The two-time Oscar nominee wrote back: “It’s a character. Like all the characters I play. Calm down brother. Enjoy the video and the fun that it possesses. Dance it out! It ain’t that deep.”

Quoting self-professed “queen of drag” RuPaul, Colman claimed that “we are born naked and everything else is drag”, insisting: “Suits, t-shirts, dresses. All drag.”

As well as its A-list guest, the Tears music video is also noteworthy as it features two different endings on YouTube, which play alternately when the clip is streamed.

Tears is the second single to be lifted from Sabrina’s new album Man’s Best Friend, which also debuted on Friday.

Before it was even released, Sabrina’s latest offering raised eyebrows thanks to its provocative cover art, which led to plenty of debate on social media.

Earlier this week, the Official Charts Company revealed that Man’s Best Friend is currently on course to become Sabrina’s second number one album in the UK.
