“New Balance has supported me since my junior tennis years and has been by my side for the biggest moments of my career,” WTA pro Coco Gauff previously said. Since the age of 14, the now 21-year-old American tennis sensation has been a part of New Balance’s journey while extending her own tennis career with the Boston-based brand. While she may have missed her chances to clinch a clay trophy last week, at the Madrid Open against Aryna Sabalenka, Gauff made sure to share a glimpse of her brand new shoe collection from New Balance. But wait, there’s an intriguing ‘Miu Miu’ twist here! Confused? Let us explain the context.
Last month, Gauff unveiled a surprise collaboration between New Balance and Italian fashion brand Miu Miu. The latter is owned by $7 billion fashion icon Miuccia Prada. Taking to her IG, the American star unveiled pictures for her on-court and off-court looks. She was seen modeling in the outfits and her new shoe series, the CG2. They carry the influence of Miu Miu as well, due to the collaboration.
Talking about the outfits, Gauff will sport them during the Italian Open (May 7-18), Berlin (June 14-22), and then in Cincinnati (August 5-28). On Monday, Gauff took to her IG and shared a special look of the CG2 shoes as part of the New Balance x Miu Miu partnership. In a picture, she was seen holding the shoe while offering a clear look at its design.
Meanwhile, Gauff was also excited over the amazing crossover between the two popular brands. In an interaction with Tennis Channel, during the Madrid Open campaign last month, she unveiled her thoughts on New Balance and Miu Miu coming together. “It was really exciting. Obviously Miu Miu and New Balance had a long-time relationship, and New Balance and I had a long-time relationship, so that’s allowing me to align with this collab, it’s pretty cool, and Miu Miu dressed me for the Oscars, so continuing that relationship on court,” said the 2023 US Open champion.
Additionally, she also threw light on the range of outfits she tried from Miu Miu. Per the 2024 WTA Finals winner, this entire collaboration experience “was really fun. I gotta choose from a couple of different designs and overall I just wanted to set to be very classy, very timeless, because I felt that Miu Miu’s although it’s like a Catered to Gen Z brand but the pieces are classic and have a modern twist to it and I felt like that why we did today with lot of the classic like tennis lines, not today but for Rome that maybe adding that crop top things like that to make it more youthful.”
Undoubtedly, this crossover goes beyond just footwear. The Gauff-inspired tennis sets have been launched in vibrant color-blocked styles. They include purple and white, red, blue, and white, alongside track sets designed for pre-match and post-match wear. To complete the collection, there’s the Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL sneaker. It comes in three editions: a classic suede version, a flashy silver and gold leather-and-mesh model, and a sleek black edition with brown accents.
Gauff’s set to debut the collection in this week’s Italian Open. She will be seen wearing the white-and-red set. But guess what? It’s not the only surprise New Balance has revealed for the WTA pro this season. On her 21st birthday, more than a month ago, the brand unveiled a special edition of her signature line-up.
When New Balance introduced Coco Delray on Coco Gauff’s 21st birthday
Back in March, Coco Gauff turned 21. And to make this occasion special, New Balance came up with the Coco Delray. A shoe made for players of all levels. It was launched under a special campaign. One, that envisioned tennis not just as a sport, but a symbol of community, connection, and culture. In a promotional clip for this campaign, the WTA star was seen sharing a heartfelt moment with her grandmother Yvonne Lee Odom.
Gauff reflected on the values that shaped her career. “Every place has a story to tell. Introducing the Coco Delray, from the court that Coco calls home. Available March 13th, 2025,” the video revealed. Later, she reposted this clip on IG while thanking New Balance for their continued partnership. She also expressed gratitude to her grandmother for being a part of this initiative.
The World No.3 wrote, “My new shoe with new balance launches tomorrow, thank you to my grandma for starring in this @yvonne.odom, thank you @joefreshgoods for helping create the vision, you are awesome and so talented! thank you @newbalance for trusting me, and most importantly, thank you Delray Beach for inspiring me.”
Odom also had a special message for Gauff in the promotional video. She said, “If you are part of something you should leave something part of you and you can take it with you and that’s how it is.” Coming back to tennis, Gauff’s next stop will be Rome. In fact, she’s already landed at the venue of the Italian Open.
After missing the trophy in Madrid, she will look to emerge victorious this week. Do you think she will make a deep run in Rome? Let us know in the comments below.
