Cillian Murphy responds to internet thinking he was Emaciated Infected in 28 Years Later
After a trailer was released for 28 Years Later, fans speculated that Cillian Murphy, who starred in the first film of the franchise, 28 Days Later, is the emaciated infected person in the clip. However, after the movie’s release in June 2025, the rumors were put to rest. The zombie in the trailer was not Murphy.
In a recent interview with The Observer, the Oppenheimer actor had a funny response when asked about the rumor. “That’s great people think I look like a zombie cadaver,” Murphy responded. “It’s very flattering.”
Murphy is widely known for being off from social media. During the same interview, he shared that his son made sure to let him know about the rumors and showed him the emaciated infected zombie that people have mistaken him for.
28 Years Later is the first movie in the planned trilogy with Murphy as an executive producer. The actor also revealed that he’s in the upcoming 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Murphy shared that he appears in the movie only for a brief period. While talking about the sequel, he said, “Everyone’s got to go and see the second one.” His small role in The Bone Temple will lead to a bigger part in the final movie in the trilogy.
According to the trailer, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is scheduled for a January 16, 2026, release. The movie is directed by Nia DaCosta with Alex Garland returning as the lead writer and Dony Boyle as one of the producers.
