“We Want Dart!” New York Giants fans chanted after a 22-9 loss to the Chiefs. And their voices seem to have been heard as the Giants announced that Jaxson Dart will be the QB1 hereon. The side from the Big Apple has lost all of its first 3 games of the season, with Russell Wilson being particularly poor. The game against the Chiefs was the nadir of his season. Wilson completed just 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, threw two interceptions, and had no touchdowns. So, something had to give soon, and Brian Daboll has decided to pull the plug on the Wilson experiment and thrust in Jaxson Dart.

This is in stark contrast to Daboll’s earlier comment. “I am confident with Wilson,” he had commented earlier in the season. But the picture has drastically changed since. With fan pressure mounting, the HC was left with no other option but to relent to it. Despite this setback, Russell Wilson received public support from…none other than his wife, Ciara. 

Ciara Wilson took to Instagram with a message that seemed to strike deeper than just family moments. In a post captioned “So many reasons to smile”, the Grammy-winning singer shared a carousel of photographs featuring the couple’s children, family gatherings, and moments spent giving back to their community.

The timing of the post caught attention, as Wilson’s benching had sparked debate around his future in the NFL. Rather than address the situation directly, Ciara chose to highlight what grounds their family beyond the field. The images featured candid shots of their children, playful family activities, and community outreach events.

For years, Ciara has been vocal about supporting her husband through the highs and lows of his football career. When Wilson officially signed a one-year deal $21 million deal with the Giants on March 25th, Ciara took to Instagram to celebrate. In her Stories, she shared a throwback photo of Wilson wearing a New York Yankees outfit, alongside the message, “New York State of Mind! My greatest inspiration @dangerusswilson.” With Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” playing in the background, Ciara’s post expressed her excitement and pride for her husband’s next big step. 

Her latest post continued that pattern, offering an uplifting reminder that family identity is not defined solely by professional setbacks.

Fans’ evaluation mid-game triggers the Rookie decision 

Rookie Jaxson Dart will be starting Week 4 against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium. Dart, New York’s 2025 first-round pick out of Ole Miss, had been riding the bench all season behind Wilson, making limited appearances in non-passing zones. But with the Giants off to a 0-3 start, the coaching staff and front office clearly felt a change was needed. NFL Insider Jonathan Jones said, “It appears right now that Russell Wilson will be QB2.”  

Dart will face a Chargers defense that allows under 300 yards per game in his first real taste of NFL action. He significantly outperformed expectations for the 25th overall pick with a stellar preseason. With no interceptions, he completed 32 of 47 pass attempts for 372 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, he gained 52 yards and a touchdown on six different ball carries.

When asked about Dart, Daboll said, “We put him in the game for the last two weeks. We wouldn’t put anybody in a game we don’t feel confident with.” The expectation is that Dart brings fresh energy, mobility, and a more dynamic offensive look to a unit that has struggled to find consistency under Wilson so far.

The decision also casts uncertainty over Wilson’s future with the franchise. Wilson posted a Bible verse, specifically from Ephesians 3, on his Instagram stories. The message read, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

Dart will have a difficult first test, throwing passes against the Chargers, one of the best defenses in the NFL. This might be a pivotal moment for Russell Wilson’s legacy with the organization as well as for New York’s offense if Dart plays well.
