2026 has been the year of Christopher Nolan so far, as he finally returned with his Oppenheimer follow-up, The Odyssey, which has become one of the biggest movies of the year. While still trailing films like Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movieat the box office, The Odyssey still had a claim for the most popular movie of the year, at least until the arrival of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which earned more at the box office during its opening weekend than any movie in history. Still, The Odyssey is expected to continue Oppenheimer’s trend of greatness at the Academy Awards, and it would be surprising to see it not nominated in at least 10 categories, possibly even more. Nolan has set the standard for movie greatness in the last few years, but it wasn’t that long ago that he released one of his most polarizing films.
