Chicago Fire, PD & Med Reveal Who Is Returning & Leaving Cast This Fall

One Chicago has confirmed which stars are returning for the next season, ending speculation after a finale filled with cliffhangers, emotional reveals, and looming exits. As the franchise prepares for new chapters across Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med, updated cast deals clarify the fate of several key characters and reveal which regulars are stepping away.

NBC has confirmed that all lead actors from Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med will return for the upcoming seasons.

Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd), and Dermot Mulroney (Dom Pascal) have signed new contracts to remain with Chicago Fire. Jason Beghe (Hank Voight) will continue to lead Chicago P.D., while S. Epatha Merkerson (Sharon Goodwin) and Oliver Platt (Dr. Daniel Charles) will return for Chicago Med (via Deadline).

Kinney, Beghe, Merkerson, and Platt have anchored the franchise since its launch. Kinney begins his 14th season, Beghe starts his 13th, and both Merkerson and Platt return for their 11th. NBC will produce 21 episodes for each series next season, though most cast members will miss a few episodes as part of budget-saving measures.

Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) and Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) will not return as series regulars on Chicago Fire. Carver’s storyline pointed to a possible transfer to the Denver Fire Department, while the finale also reignited his relationship with Violet. The show did not address Ritter’s departure, and producers are waiting to confirm Kyri’s availability for the upcoming season.

Showrunner Andrea Newman said both Lockett and Kyri could return in some capacity to wrap up their characters’ stories. Newman also confirmed that Firehouse 51 will face major changes, including layoffs and forced resignations, as part of an internal shake-up. Mulroney will stay on as battalion chief following Herrmann’s decision to step down and let Mouch become engine lieutenant.

NBC renewed all three One Chicago series in early May. The shows are produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m., Chicago Fire at 9 p.m., and Chicago P.D. at 10 p.m. Executive producers include Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski, and additional show-specific producers.
