Chase & Status announced the details for their upcoming album, Generic Everything, and dropped a fresh single with Debbie, “Gone Too Far,” as a taste of what’s in store.
Few artists in the current era of the drum and bass scene have been as instrumental to its prominence as Chase & Status. The dynamic UK duo roared back into the spotlight by dropping absolute bangers like “Baddadan,” “Disconnect” with Becky Hill, “BACKBONE” with Stormzy, and more in recent years. Now, Chase & Status are adding another chapter to their growing story by announcing their latest album, Generic Everything.
Generic Everything, due out on October 9 via 2RUFF Records, is expected to continue Chase & Status’ legacy of shaking up the scene with their full-length releases. Previous albums — More than Alot, No More Idols, Brand New Machine, Tribe, RTRN II JUNGLE, and What Came Before — all carried distinct sonic elements ranging from acid-fueled rave to dubstep, along with a hearty helping of drum and bass. With the duo stating “Reject the expected” alongside the announcement, one can only wonder where they’re taking their sound next.
A first glimpse of what’s to come on Generic Everything arrived at the end of July when Chase & Status dropped “Disgruntled,” a collaboration featuring J Hus and IRAH that punched with plenty of energy. Today, another taste arrived alongside the album’s announcement in the form of its second single, “Gone Too Far.” For this tune, the UK drum and bass duo teamed up with Debbie, who provides powerful vocals over the track’s atmospheric breakbeat.
“We started this record many years ago and knew it felt special but could never find the right voice to finish it,” said Chase & Status on Instagram. “After hearing Debbie’s incredible voice, we reached out to see if she would be up for collaborating and finally, after all this time, we’re excited it’s found the light of day.”
Other notable artists featured on the collaboration-heavy Generic Everything include Skrillex, Saam Sultan, Little Simz, Ledbyher, and more. Additional singles are anticipated to arrive in the coming weeks, and those catching Chase & Status at their upcoming shows in San Diego, Seattle, and more should pay close attention to spot the forthcoming tunes.
Listen to “Gone Too Far” on Spotify, and pre-save or pre-order a copy of Generic Everything ahead of its release on October 9. Those looking to add physical media to their collections will be delighted to know that the album will be released on standard and limited-edition vinyl, as well as on CD, with different bundles available if you’d like to include some merch in the mix.
