Charles Oliveira is no stranger to battles inside the Octagon. But this time, he’s being celebrated for a different kind of fight—the one for the future of the next generation.
At UFC Honors, Oliveira received the 2025 Forrest Griffin Community Award, a tribute to athletes who leave deep footprints beyond the cage. Named after the legendary former champion and pioneer of the sport, Forrest Griffin, this award shines a spotlight on those who pour their hearts into charity and volunteer work. And Oliveira’s impact? It runs as deep as his rear-naked choke.
If you’ve ever wondered what real inspiration looks like, you don’t have to look further than East LA Jiu Jitsu. With ‘Do Bronx’s involvement, this non-profit school opens its doors to every kid, no matter their financial situation. “Our mission is building character through jiu jitsu, every kid trains, regardless of their ability to pay,” stated Professor Ron Mukai in the YouTube video shared by the UFC.
When Oliveira visited, it wasn’t just about the mats and drills. It was personal. “It reminded me of my past,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion. “It’s a blessing to be with these kids. This is about showing them what they can do in life.”

For Oliveira, it’s bigger than just jiu jitsu—it’s a lesson about life itself. “Life out there is difficult. The streets can be difficult. Thankfully, I can come here and talk to them about how important this is.”
From the favelas of Brazil to the bright lights of the UFC, Charles Oliveira has walked a road paved with hardship and hope. Now, he’s lighting that road for others.
