Cardano Card has announced plans to cease its operations. In a statement shared today, the payment solution, built around ADA and the Cardano ecosystem, revealed that it will discontinue its card services at the end of this month, on October 31, 2026.
What Cardano Card retiring means for cardholders
As per the announcement, the company said customers can continue using their cards as usual until the stated date. It therefore urged users to make arrangements for the scheduled operation closure.
The firm cited the reason for the card service shutdown. According to the report, its partner, Wirex, is shifting to a non-custodial model and terminating its custodial infrastructure, and as a result, discontinuing the collaboration between the two entities.
Cardano Card said it will share further updates on follow-up preparations for existing customers in the near term. The firm clarified that the service discontinuation is directly linked to Wirex’s infrastructure shifts, not functionality issues with the card product itself.
In July 2025, Cardano unveiled the card, an ambitious offering that integrates virtual currency payments and real-world utility. The card lets users spend ADA directly, borrow cryptocurrencies, and earn rewards on every purchase.
The card is a Visa-based, multichain crypto payment card, made possible through a partnership between Cardano and Wirex. The physical card lets users spend ADA at any location that accepts Visa, showing that crypto has become mainstream and powers everyday payments and services.
Why is ADA’s price down?
The winding down of the Cardano Card service coincides with the losses ADA is currently seeing. Although the altcoin still has a bull case, on-chain data signals declining investor engagement.
ADA is currently exchanging hands at $0.18 after dropping 2.05% and 10.13% over the past 24 hours and seven days, respectively. The scheduled shutdown of the Cardano Card at the end of the month adds another uncertainty, as there has been no official communication about a potential replacement.
