After a solid bounce-back season last year, Pierre-Luc Dubois has hit a roadblock.

The Washington Capitals forward is set to miss an “extended period” after suffering a lower-body injury in Friday’s game against the New York Islanders, head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters Monday.

According to Carbery, Dubois is still being evaluated and it remains unclear as to whether or not he’ll require surgery.

The incident occurred during a faceoff near the end of the first period of Friday’s 3-1 loss to the Islanders.

After taking a faceoff against Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Dubois fell to the ice and seemed to be in serious pain, unable to get back up. He was helped off the ice by teammates and immediately went back to the team’s locker room.

He wound up missing Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Dubois, 27, has had a slow go of things this season and missed time earlier in the year with another lower-body injury. He has been held without a point through six games and is only playing an average of 15:32 per night.

Last season, the Ste-Agathe-Des-Monts, Que., native had 20 goals and 46 assists for a career-high 66 points.

Since being drafted third overall in 2016, Dubois has picked up 165 goals and 243 assists for 408 points in 604 games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings and the Capitals.
