Capitals, Ovechkin commemorate goal record with specialty cereal

The hype surrounding Alex Ovechkin‘s successful chase for NHL history continues.

The Washington Capitals and Ovechkin, in partnership with Giant Foods, are launching Ovechkin’s Great Crunch cereal, a limited-edition campaign whose funds, in part, are supporting THE GR8 CHASE for Victory over Cancer.

The cereal is set to his the shelves on Sept. 19.

Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time leading goal-scorer on April 6, scoring his 895th goal against the New York Islanders, surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s previous record of 894.

The Capitals captain is heading into his 21st NHL season after he was selected first overall in 2004. In that span, he’s only had one sub-30 goal campaign, which came in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season.

In addition to his shiny new goals record, Ovechkin has 1,623 career points in 1,491 games.
