Talk about a wild week.
Canada’s Roger Sloan finished second in the Bahamas Golf Classic on Wednesday after entering the Korn Ferry Tour’s season opener as an alternate in the field this past weekend.
But this wasn’t just a traditional alternate-gets-in-the-field tale for a conditional member of a tour.
Sloan’s usual caddie didn’t make the trip to the Bahamas, per Golf Channel.
Sloan took the spot of Noah Goodman, who withdrew because of a hip injury. Goodman’s father, Jeff, his son’s caddie, then let the field know he was available if anyone needed a looper.
“I’m scrambling,” Sloan told Golf Channel. “I book a flight, I don’t have a caddie, and I don’t have a room. The room block is unavailable now, it’s so last minute, so I don’t even have a place to stay.”
Sloan said his regular caddie put him in touch with Jeff Goodman, who also had a room for him.
“I gobbled that up,” Sloan said. “Are you kidding me? I’m going to get a caddie and roommate all in the same go? Sign me up.”
The 38-year-old native of Merritt, B.C., said he met Jeff Goodman for dinner Saturday night, and then teed it up with his new caddie the next day.
Sloan finished 24 under for three rounds, three strokes behind winner Taylor Dickson of the U.S.
The Korn Ferry Tour is the feeder circuit for the PGA Tour. The top 20 at season’s end get PGA cards.
Sloan has qualified for the PGA Tour three times through a Korn Ferry season. He struggled last year, finishing 131st in the Korn Ferry standings, thereby losing full membership for 2026.
