“I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realize Wada’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love,” said Jannik Sinner, in what became a defining statement after accepting his 3-month ban post-Valentine’s Day. The suspension, effective from February 9 to May 4, saw the top seed sidelined from five major ATP events, including the Qatar Open and Miami Open, costing him a staggering 1,600 ranking points. But what Sinner truly lost wasn’t just numbers; it was his in-game rhythm, the pulse that drives his brilliance. And back in May, after a rousing homecoming in Rome, backed by a sea of roaring fans, Sinner chose humility. Despite his victorious return, he’s tempering expectations, and that speaks volumes!

The top seed Jannik Sinner wasted no time finding his rhythm on Saturday, marking his return after more than 3 months with a commanding second-round victory over Mariano Navone at the ATP Masters 1000 in the Italian Open. In a match that lasted one hour and 38 minutes, Sinner prevailed 6-3, 6-4, showing his trademark precision and power. Though he briefly surrendered a break lead in the second set, the 23-year-old Italian quickly regrouped, closing out the match with composure.

Despite this being his 1st appearance since winning the AO, Sinner displayed little emotion on court, staying laser-focused throughout. His win over the Argentine extended his impressive tour-level winning streak to 22 matches, a run that dates back to October. Yet, even after such a dominant return, Sinner revealed he’s keeping expectations in check, highlighting the cautious mindset guiding his comeback campaign in Rome.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Sinner added, “For sure it’s different, no. I feel like that we prepared ourself in the best possible way. Of course, I was missing the feedback of official matches which are the best feedbacks we player can get, so you know at least now I have a bigger picture of what I’m doing well and what I have to improve.”

Later, the 3-time GS winner also emphasized how he will asses the game and what are his future intentions for the upcoming tournaments in mind. “Of course the nerves and‌ everything it has to go again into‌ my body and trying to understand what‌ we can do better in the next round. But yeah, you know I hopefully can play here one or two matches more to see where‌ I am at, which would be my main goal and then all the rest is just a positive. It was a great start off from my point of view of this tournament and then and of the comeback, so let’s see what’s coming,”

From the outset, the 23-year-old looked razor sharp. He faced an early break point in the 1st set but saved it with calm precision and held serve. Quickly gaining momentum, he surged ahead to 3-1, then 4-1, eventually sealing the set in just 43 minutes. In the 2nd set, Navone pushed back briefly by leveling at 2-2, but Sinner stayed composed, broke for a 4-3 lead, and closed out the match with ease.

And as he gears up for his R32 clash tomorrow, the Italian also caught attention off the court. He shared his thoughts on his clothing colors, adding flair to an already electric night.

“Everyone is different,” Jannik Sinner opens up about his choice of kit at his return to court

On Saturday night, Jannik Sinner made his long-awaited return to the ATP Tour after more than 3 months away. The Italian was welcomed like a hero by the home crowd in Rome. Playing in front of thousands of passionate fans, the 23-year-old embraced the moment, not just with his powerful play, but also with a bold fashion choice. While he could have worn the traditional white expected of a hometown favorite, he stepped onto the court in a sleek, all-black Nike outfit.

After cruising to a straight-sets victory over Mariano Navone to advance to the third round, Sinner addressed his on-court look during his post-match press conference. When a reporter pointed out that almost all top-ranked players usually favor vibrant colors, Sinner confidently explained his preference.

“Nah, everyone is different. In Rome, here, if we watch the last times when I played, I always played in whole black. It’s something I always wanted to keep in a way. Can change in the future this, yes,” he added. “But I love having all in the same color. I believe it suits me quite well. I like not the yellow and orange and these very bright colors. I like more the darker colors.”

This subtle yet sharp sense of style marks a shift in tennis’s fashion narrative in the current era. While legends like the Spaniard Rafael Nadal lit up the clay in eye-popping colors, Sinner has carved out his own identity in darker, minimalist tones. He wore the “NikeCourt Advantage Polo” ($65), “NikeCourt Advantage 6″ shorts” ($70), and the “NikeCourt Heritage Jacket” ($90), premium gear that’s actually available for fans to buy.

Now 8-0 this season with one title already under his belt, the Italian will face Jesper De Jong in the 3rd round on Monday. Could winning the Italian Masters be the ultimate comeback for the rising Italian ace?
