The 2025 NFL draft is widely touted to have a ‘weak’ quarterback class. You will see many prominent analysts and scouts repeating the bogey of a ‘weak’ 2025 draft class. Undoubtedly, in terms of top talents, the class can be considered that way in many ways. Only Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward look to provide the promise of an elite QB. However, that being said, the class does have its attractions and positive points.

First and foremost, the 2025 draft class for QBs is too deep, and all the QBs till the 15th-20th rank are quite decent, if not world-class. Some of the players like Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart are wildcards in the game as we don’t know where they would land. Similarly, other QBs like Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers also have dominated headlines occasionally, with teams pondering drafting them even in the first round. But one of the players who seemed to be out of the picture is starting to make a comeback.

Well, we are talking about Tyler Shough, who didn’t quite make the headlines like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. But, he was in the talks because of a wholly other thing: his age. Shough, who is currently 25 years old, will turn 26 when the NFL season starts in 2025. This essentially has deterred teams from pursuing him because of apprehensiveness about molding him into their fold. However, the QB hasn’t budged from the challenge and cleared his stance on the rumors circulating about his age.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Shough was asked about the rumors circulating about his age and if it affects him in any way. The QB had a perfect response. “I feel like I have all the physical characteristics, but I’ve kind of gone through all the mental side of it where I’ve had to, you know, go through a life of confidence, I’ve got to go through, you know, being a transfer, being injured, being cut, and all these things are happening in the NFL also.  I just love football so much and kind of just try to stay strong and stay true to it. And I feel like I’m only growing and getting better“.

Well, the QB spent 7 years in college football in which he was initially with Oregon Ducks, then transferred to Texas Tech Raiders, and finally moved to Louisville Cardinals for his final season. The final season not only brought the best in Tyler Shough as he helped the Cardinals finish 8-4, notching up 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns with just 6 interceptions. But also, showcased that he can remain in the conversation of the NFL draft. Moreover, there might be a team already looking for his services.

Tyler Shough is going to the Los Angeles Rams?

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing around 219 lbs, Tyler Shough also has the physical prowess to be the dual-threat QB certain teams are looking for. And, one of the teams, i.e., Los Angeles Rams, is widely touted to be his ultimate destination. For one, their veteran QB Matthew Stafford hasn’t yet signed the amended contract, and even if he signs, it won’t be for more than one year.

In that case the Rams are looking for QB without going spending too much cap on a quarterback. Someone who already has the required experience and can transition smoothly under Stafford’s mentorship. That someone could well be Tyler Shough, and he perfectly fits the bill.

Just recently, in another ESPN interview posted on its X page on April 5, the QB was all in admiration for Matthew Stafford. “I grew up watching [Matthew] Stafford and the stuff that he does with his arm angles. He’s a tough son of a gun, he’s playing through a lot of stuff and has been around. He’s playing really well into his late 30s. I’ve always really liked him “. In a recent mock draft conducted by Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling, Tyler Shough may well be on the brink of meeting his childhood hero.

The draft placed Shough at the 90th overall pick with the Rams taking in the services of the player. Shough, with some time, can undoubtedly be a bridge for Matthew Stafford’s transition. His arm talent, compact throwing motion with velocity, and ultimately the mobility considering his size make him a solid fit for the Rams in the long run. It is also possible that Shough may become attractive for other teams and can ultimately challenge Cam Ward in the first round, who knows? Anything is possible in this draft class.
