Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar opened up about late co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who played the role of Gellar’s sister Dawn Summers for three seasons. At the age of 39, Trachtenberg passed away three months ago due to natural causes as a result of complications from diabetes mellitus.

During a recent interview, Gellar promised fans that the upcoming Hulu reboot will definitely address Dawn Summers’ absence in order to pay tribute to Trachtenberg.
“Yeah, we’ll do something. We’ll do what’s appropriate,” Gellar said. Series vet Alyson Hannigan also chimed in by expressing her confidence in Gellar’s creative team for the Buffy reboot. “I’m sure they’ll handle it with utter grace.”
After the news about Trachtenberg’s death surfaced online, Geller posted a photo of Buffy and Dawn on Instagram to commemorate the late actress. Her post included the caption: “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.”
Based on the iconic supernatural drama series, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival will be written and directed by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, who are also set to serve as showrunners. The Hulu reboot will be led by Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who has been tapped to play the newest slayer. She will be accompanied by Gellar, who will be reprising her iconic role in a recurring capacity. Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao is also attached to direct and executive produce, alongside Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzi, and Dolly Parton. It is a production by 20th Television and Searchlight Television.
