The upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has found its lead star.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as Buffy Summers in an upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot that’s being made for Hulu. The show’s pilot episode is being directed by Chloé Zhao, who is known for making 2020’s Nomadland, 2021’s Eternals, and more.
Who has been cast in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot show?
Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been tapped to play a new slayer in the show, per Deadline. The character is described to be “an introverted high-school student,” though no further information beyond that is available at this time.
Armstrong is best known for playing Fern in 2024’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. She has also starred in the television shows Anne with an E, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, and American Horror Story: Red Tide, while her filmography includes 2019’s The Art of Racing in the Rain, 2019’s It Chapter Two, 2021’s Black Widow, 2021’s The Tomorrow War, 2022’s Firestarter, 2023’s The Old Way, and more.
“I want to introduce you to @ryankarmstrong,” Gellar said in an Instagram post, which can be viewed below, of Armstrong’s casting. “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room. Welcome to #NewSunnydale”
The pilot episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot comes from 20th Television and Searchlight TV. Gellar and Zhao serve as executive producers on the project alongside Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, Gail Berman of the Jackal Group, Fran and Kaz Kuzui of Suite B, and Dolly Parton of Sandollar.
