Vita Vea has recently taken a sarcastic jab at teammate Lavonte David. Their friendly banter has continued within the Buccaneers’ locker room even though it has been weeks since their match with Houston.
Vea lighthearted trash-talkly posted a statement through an X post where he states, “Still hurt about this.”
The context stems from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ Week 2 game against the Houston Texans on September 15, 2025. During the match, David, playing in his 200th NFL career game, failed to haul in an easy interception thrown by Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. The drop was particularly frustrating because the pass seemed an easy catch that Vita Vea could also make, who was visibly upset, and was seen putting his hand to his face as David lay on the ground. Recalling the incident on an episode of the Pat McAfee Show, David said in a fit of chuckles;
“Vita Vea has been trash-talking me every day since I dropped that interception.”

Despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers securing the 20-19 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 2, the game was a personal disappointment for Lavonte David. It was his 200th NFL career game, a milestone he wanted to punctuate with a big play. Instead, he logged a quiet two tackles and, worse yet, dropped an absolute “gift” of an interception.
Reports on injury come up as Lavonte David joins the Buccaneers Hall of Famers
Lavonte David was listed as a limited participant with a knee injury on Wednesday’s practice report. Putting the fans into worry as they wondered if the players could play the next game against the Philadelphia Eagles during week 4. But the star provided the injury update almost immediately as he returned for full participation on Thursday during the team’s practice session. The team has officially confirmed that the player is cleared to play in next week’s game.
His availability for Week 4 ensures that he can build on his impressive early-season performance and add to a historic milestone. Through the first three games of the season, the “ageless wonder” has logged 22 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks, putting him on track for his fourth consecutive 100-tackle season. This blend of longevity and top-tier production is what solidified his place in the record books in Week 2.
Lavonte David played in and started his 200th career regular-season game for the Buccaneers, simultaneously becoming just the 109th player in NFL history to record 200 career starts. With that snap, David joined an ultra-exclusive club previously reserved only for Hall of Famers Rondé Barber and Derrick Brooks as the only players in Buccaneers history to reach the 200-game or 200-start plateau.
