Britain’s Got Talent fans are divided after a bizarre semi-final magic performance ended in a live marriage proposal.

Harry Moulding, from Blackpool, began his performance promising he would ‘create a special moment of real magic for one person here in the audience’.

Moulding then asked the judges to select a flash card and read out a seat number to select three people at random, with the corresponding audience member standing up and confirming their name.

Simon Cowell was then told to open an envelope, which had been handed to guest judge KSI at the beginning of the act, and to read it out loud.

He said it was ‘spooky’ – as it contained the same three seat numbers and audience names.

The magician asked the three audience members to pick a different item on the list; a celebrity name, a three digit number and a location.

The random names that were chosen were Bruno Mars, 178 and Paris.

The act had begun with Moulding handing flash cards to celebrity judges Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.

Each card had a list of different items written on them, including celebrity names, seat numbers, destinations around the world and three digit numbers.

As he invited audience member Jess up on the stage, he said: ‘Jess, all the decisions tonight have been completely random, but imagine if I told you that all of this was going to happen 48 hours ago, not possible?’

The magician proceeded to play a pre-recorded video where he starts speaking to a passer-by, who Jess recognises as her boyfriend, Harry.

The video continues and Moulding asks Harry a series of questions, including if he is married, how many guests he would invite to his wedding, the singer of the first-dance song, and where he would get married.

Harry then appeared on stage with a wedding ring and said: ‘I love you more than anything. Will you do me the honour. Will you marry me?’

Early in his act, Harry appeared to get the name of one of the fans wrong, which drew some funny comments online.

Some, however, pointed out some inconsistencies (Picture: Dymond/TalkbackThames/Shutterstock)

@wendymaximoff wrote on X: ‘Pretty sure her name is Constance not concert LMFAOOOO.’

@TashAmaka added: ‘Why’s he calling Constance, Concert? #BritainsGotTalent #BGT.’

Then, after one of the fans was proposed to, viewers could not contain their shock.

@mariahscracker wrote on X: ‘A wedding proposal in a magician act?!
a lovely sweet moment. well done Harry. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.’

@Colabubble even said: ‘And now I’m crying’.

Meanwhile, @Teeej333 added: ‘Omg how beautiful bgt love proposal this is so freaky.’

However, not all fans were convinced by the ‘random’ nature of the act, as some viewers pointed out some clear inconsistencies.

@Sutherwood claimed the act was: ‘Fake Fake Fake.’

@Lucy86114430 also wrote: ‘Hold on, so if he already met with jess’s boyfriend, then he knew what seat was jess was gonna be in which means he knew what seat the judge would pick??? Not random at all then #BritainsGotTalent.’

This is far from the first time BGT has been caught up in speculation about not everything being as it seemed.

Earlier in the series, singer Max Fox suddenly interrupted the final round of Britain’s Got Talent 2025 auditions, stepping out from the crowd so he could sing.

The amateur performer said to Simon: ’19 years I’ve been trying to get in front of you, and I’ve never, ever had that chance.’

He continued, asking the music and TV mogul, ‘Can you give me one opportunity?’ before insisting he could show the nation ‘what [he’s got]’.

Despite singing an impressive rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way, some viewers believed it was fixed, leading to Max having to shut down the claims.

Max appeared on This Morning to say: ‘The day before, I got some free tickets for the auditions – three rows back from the panel. It was just in the moment – there was some old dears behind me and I asked them if I should ask Simon if I can sing.’

The long-running reality competition series returned for another outing earlier this year to showcase the UK’s best variety acts — from powerhouse singers to astonishing performance groups.

And after weeks of build-up, we have almost completed our lineup of finalists, which includes Blackouts, Vinnie McKee, Ping Pong Pang, and Hear Our Voice.

The Britain’s Got Talent final airs next Saturday on ITV.
