Brad Pitt Teams With Conclave Director for New Movie The Riders

Academy Award-winning actor Brad Pitt has signed on for the leading role in A24‘s upcoming film adaptation of The Riders, based on Tim Winton’s 1994 novel of the same name. The project will be directed by Conclave filmmaker Edward Berger from a screenplay written by David Kajganich. Both Berger and Kajganich are also set to serve as producers.

Production is expected to begin in early 2026, which will take place in multiple locations in Europe. After successfully winning the rights to the project, A24 will be financing and handling the global theatrical release of the movie. Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss will be producing for Scott Free, along with Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner for Plan B Entertainment.

What is The Riders about?

“The story follows Fred Scully (Pitt), who, after traveling through Europe for two years, winds up in Ireland with his wife and daughter. And on a mystical whim of his wife Jennifer, they buy an old farmhouse that stands in the shadow of a castle,” reads the novel’s synopsis. “While Scully spends weeks alone renovating the old house, Jennifer returns to Australia to liquidate their assets. When Scully arrives at Shannon Airport to pick up Jennifer and their 7-year-old daughter, Billie, it is Billie who emerges — alone. There is no note, no explanation, not so much as a word from Jennifer, and the shock has left Billie speechless. In that instant, Scully’s life falls to pieces.”

Pitt will next be seen in Joseph Kosinski’s highly-anticipated sports action drama F1, with Snowfall’s Damson Idris. At the moment, he is currently in production for David Ayer’s action adventure movie Heart of the Beast, which will see him playing a former Army Special Forces soldier who must survive the wilderness with his combat dog. The acclaimed actor is also set to reunite with director David Fincher for Netflix’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel.
