A Minecraft Movie, which is based on the titular video game, is going head-to-head with Sinners. The release of A Minecraft Movie kicked off by debuting at No. 1 at the domestic box office with a $162.7 million 3-day total, which is the best ever for a video game movie. It held that position in its second weekend despite competition from a raft of new releases, including The King of Kings, Drop, Warfare, and The Amateur. The newest contender for the No. 1 spot is the period-set horror movie Sinners, which reteams director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan.
