Anthony Santander didn’t miss a beat during his day off.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger returned to the lineup Saturday with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons, batting second and playing left field for the second time in his rehab assignment.
Santander went 2-for-4 with a single, double and two RBIs against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the first multi-hit game since he joined the Bisons.
The 30-year-old got into the hit column right away Saturday, dumping a first-pitch cutter into centre-field for a first-inning single.
He also grounded out twice in the game, but his biggest swing came with two runners on in the fifth inning. Santander ripped an 0-1 changeup off the wall in right field, driving in both runs with a 104.8 m.p.h. double.

Santander also returned to the outfield Saturday for the second time with the Bisons. His first game back in the grass came on Wednesday, and he didn’t see any action. But on Saturday, he caught fly balls in the first and eighth innings on his two defensive chances of the afternoon before being replaced in the ninth.
He got the day off Friday after playing seven of the previous eight days.
Santander is now 7-for-30 during his rehab assignment with two doubles, two homers and four walks.
“Just kind of a general off day. We didn’t really plan for any of those in his calendar, but I think (he’s) feeling some game volume (from) being in the outfield and stuff like that,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday during an appearance on Blair & Barker. “He’s doing more than all right. He’s feeling good.”
Toronto’s major off-season addition has been out of the MLB lineup with a shoulder injury since May 29.
Before hitting the injured list, Santander was slashing .179/.273/.304 with six homers in 50 games for the Blue Jays. He had mostly served as Toronto’s designated hitter, but also spent time defensively in left and right field and at first base.
Buffalo now has just one game remaining on its regular-season schedule, as it wraps up its six-game set against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
