A first check on Jose Berrios’ elbow produced good news.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said an MRI revealed no structural damage to Berrios’ elbow. However, the veteran right-hander will meet with renowned Tommy John specialist Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion.
The Blue Jays placed Berrios on the injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation. The move came days after the longtime starter was moved to the bullpen as the Blue Jays worked to align their pitching plans for the playoffs.
Berrios, 31, had a 4.17 ERA this season over 30 starts and one relief appearance.
In other injury news, Schneider told reporters that Bo Bichette is hitting and throwing but not running yet as he works his way back from a knee injury. No timeline for his return to the lineup has been determined yet.
