The Toronto Blue Jays lost designated hitter Anthony Santander in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Santander was ruled out by the team with left hip inflammation and replaced in the lineup by outfielder Jonatan Clase.

In his pinch-hit appearance, Clase picked up a two-RBI double with the bases loaded.

Before exiting, Santander was 1-for-3 with a single off the top of the wall in right field. He also hit a two-run homer in the series opener on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old switch-hitter has been dealing with hip and shoulder injuries over the past few weeks. He missed time in Toronto’s series against the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers due to the ailments.

With his three trips to the plate on Wednesday, Santander is now slashing .188/.266/.33 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in his debut season with the Blue Jays.

Toronto signed the 2024 Silver Slugger to a heavily deferred five-year, $92.5-million contract in the off-season.
