Blue Jackets acquire Alex Nylander, pick from Penguins for Emil Bemstrom

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired forward Alex Nylander and a conditional sixth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Emil Bemstrom, the clubs announced Thursday.

This is the first move the Blue Jackets have made under interim general manager John Davidson.

Nylander, the younger brother of the Toronto Maple Leafs star, has played in 98 NHL games, registering 14 goals and 34 points in that time. He’s previously played for the Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres.

He’s spent this season in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and in 43 appearances, leads the team with 17 goals and 32 points.

Bemstrom, 24, has played in 32 games for the Blue Jackets this season, notching five goals and six assists.
