Blame Game on Carson Beck Backfires as Greg McElroy Unmasks Real Culprits Behind Georgia’s Downfall

1 week ago 2

After a painful loss to Alabama weeks ago, Georgia made us believe they changed. Even with some sloppy wins, no one pointed out their mistakes. However, a recent loss to Ole Miss has raised many questions in the college football world. Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart are facing the heat after Georgia’s rainy 10-28 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. Let’s learn what analyst Greg McElroy has to say about Georgia’s falling offense beyond Carson Beck‘s mistakes.

On the November 12th episode, of the ESPN college football show, analyst Greg McElroy dedicated an episode to Georgia’s fallback this season. “It’d be easy to say, well, you know, it’s just Carson Beck’s fault. I’m telling you, it’s not, as someone who’s watched every single offensive snap of Georgia this year. Their problems extend far beyond Carson Beck. Okay, they don’t have a true number-one wide receiver. They lead the nation in drugs. Their two best true wide receivers were kicked off the team earlier this year.”

McElroy then talked about three-time all-American and two-time John Mackey Award winner Georgia’s former wide receiver Brock Bowers, who led Georgia in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns throughout the three seasons he played at Athens. However, after an ankle injury last season, he was absent for a few games.

The same goes for another wide receiver, Ladd McConkey, who played in 39 games for the three seasons he played. He was a crucial player for the Bulldogs during their 2023 win at SoFi Stadium. However, he also stayed on the sidelines after facing a back injury. After this, both these players left the Bulldogs and announced for the NFL.

Although many are now suggesting that because of these players’ absence, Georgia is facing problems, McElroy pointed out that, even without these guys, Georgia was doing well last season. “So it’s clearly not just about Bowers and McConkey. It’s about the fact that this group of wide receivers can’t separate; they can’t explode downfield. So much of what they do in the offense is catch and run. They throw screens and they hope those guys miss tackles, and they honestly haven’t been able to do that with a lot of regularity. Their routes are terrible. I see on several occasions. They don’t stem routes. They’re not setting up defenders. It’s just a lack of attention to detail at the wide receiver. Plus, did I mention the drops? I did, and I counted four this past game.”

Dropped passes have now been a repetitive issue so far this season. The same issue persisted during their loss to Ole Miss. You know what? Carson Beck-led Georgia Bulldogs are on top of every other team with 29 drops this season. Such silly mistakes are not expected from an SEC king like Georgia. With that, let’s learn what the other reasons were for Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss.

What went wrong for Georgia against Ole Miss along with Carson Beck’s mistakes?

Throughout the game, Ole Miss’s defense was top-notch against Georgia. Carson Beck and his mates struggled and stayed in third and long rather than third and manageable. Princely Umanmielen and Jarred Ivey had two sacks, along with two tackles for losses. Analysts noted that Georgia’s offensive mistakes were their worst O-line performance in the last three seasons.

On top of that, turnovers have also been a major problem during this game. Not only the game against Ole Miss for the whole season, they have been struggling to turn the ball over. Along with running back, Nate Frazier’s crucial fumble and Carson Beck’s issues favored Ole Miss to a longer possession.

Crason Beck managed to complete 20 of 31 passes for 186 yards for this game, struggled to score even a single touchdown, and had an interception as well. Besides that, what are your thoughts about what went wrong for Georgia this season, besides Carson Beck’s blunders? Let us know in the comments.
