As Swift faces a subpoena in the lawsuit between Lively and Justin Baldoni, insiders reveal that the longtime friends are taking space, with Swift reportedly distancing herself from the dispute.

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s long-standing friendship has reportedly paused amid legal drama involving Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

“Their friendship has halted,” a source close to Swift told PEOPLE. “Taylor wants no part in this drama.” Another insider added that the two are “taking some space” but remain friends.

Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed Swift on May 8, 2025, as part of his ongoing countersuit against Lively. A source said the subpoena “fractured” the “fragile peace” between the two stars. According to Baldoni’s January 2025 complaint, Lively referred to Swift as one of her “dragons” in an alleged text exchange. Swift’s representative later stated the singer “did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release.”

In a May 14 letter to the judge, Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman alleged—based on an anonymous source—that Lively pressured Swift to make a public statement of support. Freedman claimed Lively’s lawyer implied Swift’s private texts might be leaked if she didn’t comply. Lively’s attorney Mike Gottlieb denied the claims, calling them “cowardly sourced” and “completely untethered from reality.”

Following the subpoena, Swift has remained publicly silent on the matter. Meanwhile, a source told PEOPLE that Swift “was really hurt” by the situation. The judge struck both Freedman’s letter and affidavit from the record, warning of possible sanctions for further misconduct.

Lively sued Baldoni in December 2024 for harassment and retaliation. He responded with a $400 million defamation countersuit. In addition to Swift, Lively’s connection with Gigi Hadid has also reportedly cooled. “Gigi is closer to Taylor and has definitely taken her side,” a source said. The trial is scheduled for March 2026.
