It has been four years since Michael Bay’s most recent film, the action thriller Ambulance, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González. The last big-budget tentpole of his career was the Netflix movie 6 Underground, which was released in 2019. And his last theatrical tentpole was Transformers: The Last Knight, which debuted in 2017. All of this is to say that Bay has never taken this long between projects, especially the kind that he is synonymous with. Although he has directed a documentary feature for the first time in his career, he remains best known for the epic action movies he directed in the 1990s and 2000s, the most well-known of which is currently streaming in the United States on Peacock.
