Bill Skarsgård Goes From Pennywise to Leading Hideo Kojima’s Physint Spy Game

Popular video game creator Hideo Kojima revealed his lead actor for his new action-espionage game, Physint. Bill Skarsgård, who famously played Pennywise in the It franchise, will headline Kojima’s upcoming title.

The casting announcement was made during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, along with a new teaser poster. The poster features a blonde-haired Skarsgård alongside his co-star and “The Next Cold War Begins” as the tagline.

“I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård,” Kojima said in an official press release. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”

Skarsgård isn’t carrying Physint alone. The game also stars Charlee Fraser (Anyone But You), Don Lee (Eternals), and Minami Hamabe in supporting roles.

Kojima is developing Physint under Kojima Productions in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. The game marks his return to the action-espionage genre and is described as a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series.

The creator initially planned the game for PlayStation, with the developer working with Sony during its development. However, PlayStation opted out of the project itself this month, and Xbox subsequently stepped in as the new publishing partner. Xbox is also working with Kojima on a horror game titled OD.

The casting continues Kojima’s tradition of featuring major Hollywood talent in his games. Metal Gear Solid V featured Kiefer Sutherland, while Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Sydoux starred in Death Stranding. Physint doesn’t have an official release date.

Skarsgård is currently working on Lords of War, a sequel to the 2005 film titled Lord of War. He is also appearing in Emperor and The Mosquito Bowl.
