Bethany Platt is given a glimmer of hope about mum Sarah’s future in Coronation Street next week when Kit Green reveals he’s uncovered a new line of enquiry that could change everything.

Sarah is currently behind bars after admitting she killed Theo Silverton, but she’s continued to protect Gary Windass despite his involvement in the aftermath of Theo’s death.

Now, Kit believes that could be about to work in Sarah’s favour.

The drama begins when Jay arrives at Kit’s flat with a hard drive containing all the phone data the detective had requested as he continues to investigate what really happened on the night Theo died.

Curious about what he’s working on, Bethany demands answers, prompting Kit to finally let her in on his theory.

He explains that while Sarah has accepted responsibility for Theo’s death, Gary’s actions afterwards may have made her situation much worse.

Kit believes that if he can prove Gary’s involvement prevented Sarah from going to the police straight away, it could help reduce any sentence she ultimately receives.

For Bethany, who’s been desperately searching for good news since Sarah was imprisoned, it’s the first real sign that there may still be hope.

Kit wastes no time getting to work, trawling through the data recovered from Gary’s phone. Before long, he stumbles across something that catches his eye.

Exactly what he’s uncovered remains a mystery, but it’s enough for Kit to seek Gary out.

Finding him in the Rovers Return, Kit tells Gary he’s had ‘an interesting day’ before suggesting he should call round to the flat later.

Needless to say, it’s a conversation Gary probably isn’t looking forward to.

The latest twist comes after an emotional few weeks for the Platts.

Earlier this week, Bethany visited Sarah in prison and filled her in on everything she’d missed, including Jodie’s shock arrival at Audrey Roberts’ birthday celebration.

She also revealed that Jodie had confessed to police that she attacked Sarah on the night Theo died, finally telling the truth about what happened after Sarah fled from the scene.

Despite everything that’s happened, Sarah has remained determined to shield Gary from the investigation.

When she was questioned by DS Lisa Swain, Sarah admitted killing Theo but insisted Gary played no real part in what happened afterwards, claiming she ended the call to him almost as soon as he answered.

Kit has also struggled to believe Sarah’s version of events and has repeatedly urged her to tell police the full story, convinced Gary’s decision to cover up the death ultimately left Sarah in a far worse position.

Sarah, however, refused to implicate him, insisting Gary only helped because she begged him to.

Away from the police investigation, Gary’s lies have already caused huge problems at home.

Maria Connor recently discovered a wedding photograph proving Gary wasn’t where he claimed to be on the night Theo died, forcing him to admit he disposed of the murder weapon and even sent a text from Theo’s phone in an attempt to cover up what had happened.

Although the confession left Maria devastated, she ultimately decided not to withdraw the statement she’d given police, fearing the impact it would have on Liam and Jake.

With Sarah continuing to keep Gary’s secret and Kit seemingly edging closer to uncovering the truth, next week could prove to be a turning point.

But has Kit finally found the evidence he needs to help Sarah, or is there still another twist to come before the truth about Theo’s death is finally exposed? And if Kit does get Gary involved, will Sarah ever forgive him?
