Ben Mendelsohn has already spent a good amount of time in the MCU playing Talos in Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion, but the actor is keen on playing another character for Marvel Studios: The Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom.

Doctor Doom will be introduced into the MCU, and fans have been excitedly wondering what actor will end up taking on the role. Just because Mendelsohn already had a role in the MCU, who is now dead, the actor hopes that the door is still open for him to play Doom. During an interview with GQ, the actor said:

"I would almost give my eyes and teeth to play Doctor Doom. I think Doctor Doom is the great unread Marvel character that could and should be done. But it is what it is.

"I got to work with Spielberg, and I got to work with Terrence Malick, and I got to work with Ridley Scott. It’s been incredible. I didn’t think this ship was coming."

Mendelsohn would be great in the role of Doctor Doom! It’s previously been rumored that Cillian Murphy and Mads Mikkelsen have been considered for the role. If Mikkelsen can be considered for the role, so can Mendelsohn, as Mikkelsen played the villain in Doctor Strange. Other rumors have claimed that Ryan Gosling, Josh Hartnett, Ralph Fiennes, and Jason Clarke are on the list of possible actors.

Years ago, Mendelsohn said he’d like to play Doom, long before he was cast as Talos. At the time he talked about the character and explained what makes him one of the greatest comic book characters of all time:

“[He] is the greatest comic character of all time. The thing that's really appealing about Victor is the damage and trauma, the loss of the family, the wrong done to him, then the revenge and the takeover. Then it's the protectiveness of Latveria wrapped in that Cold War vibe. What actually makes him great is his caring bit. That's what's great about Doctor Doom, and I just like him!"

Doom isn’t expected to play a main role in Fantastic Four, but it will set him up for his villainous MCU journey.

Pedro Pascal will be taking on the role of Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic in the film, Venessa Kirby (Napoleon) is up for the role of Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, along with Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing. Then there’s Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queens Gambit, The New Mutants) who is said to be in the running for a mystery villain role.

Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, who was brought in to re-write the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

As a project in Phase Six of the MCU, Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
