A well-known fantasy universe is turning the page with a new slate of projects now in development. As the franchise moves beyond its recent screen chapter, those involved have begun shaping how its next phase will unfold across different formats.
Several Wheel of Time projects are in work from Thomas Vu
According to Variety’s exclusive report, multiple new Wheel of Time projects are in development from iwot Studios in partnership with Arcane producer Thomas Vu and Initiate Entertainment.
These include an animated television series, animated feature films, and a PC/mobile video game based on Robert Jordan’s novels. The collaboration also involves iwot CEO Rick Selvage and COO Larry Mondragon, both previously attached to the now-ended live-action series.
The projects currently have no confirmed distributors or streaming platforms and are “aimed at broadening the franchise’s reach across platforms and engaging fans worldwide.” Vu joined the project after contributing to Riot Games’ expansion of League of Legends into a global franchise. The team has shared a proof-of-concept rendering of Rand al’Thor as part of the early development materials.
iwot confirmed that these new projects remain “distinct” from previously announced Wheel of Time adaptations, including the 3D feature The White Tower and Kari Skogland’s live-action film Age of Legends. Separate AAA open-world RPG games are also in development at iwot Games Montréal. These additions form part of iwot’s broader transmedia strategy following the cancellation of the Amazon series.
iwot Studios recently formed a joint venture with Framestore, signaling its continued expansion across multiple formats. Anthony Borquez, co-founder of Grab Labs and founder of Grab Games, has joined the partnership and contributes experience in AI-driven interactive storytelling and game development.
“I see tremendous opportunity in expanding ‘The Wheel of Time’ into fully authentic, integrated, interactive, and animated storytelling experiences,” Vu said. Selvage added, “Thomas has consistently demonstrated the ability to scale narrative worlds into global entertainment franchises.”
