Before It Was a Movie, How to Train Your Dragon Was a Book Series That Is Wildly Different From the Animated Films

Although DreamWorks Animation has produced very successful animated franchises like Shrek, Puss in Boots, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and The Boss Baby, none have reached the same level of critical acclaim that the How to Train Your Dragonseries has received. The three animated films directed by Dean DeBlois were heralded for their breathtaking imagery, memorable score by John Powell, creative worldbuilding, and thoughtful story about coexistence. Although the series wrapped up with a solid conclusion with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, DeBlois has directed a live-action remake of the first film. Although the live-action remake is nearly identical in tone and story to the first animated film from 2010, the How to Train Your Dragon saga is almost completely different from the series of novels that they were based on.
