What's hot about Be Happy?

The film Be Happy heavily relies on the performances of its lead stars - Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma. Though this is not the first time Abhishek is playing a father on screen, what sets this one apart is his deeply moving performance as Shiv. The character captures the essence of a devoted father fighting against all odds. While his bonding with Inayat is endearing, (they have worked together in Ludo as well, when she was just 4-5 years old), he stands out in emotional scenes. Inayat Verma as Dhara is a standout, bringing charm, energy, and emotional authenticity to her role. Nassar and Nora Fatehi provide solid support, with the latter impressing in both her acting and dance. It is great to see Nora do a de-glam role in a movie that showcases more than her dance skills. We wish that this film opens up more acting opportunities for her as the woman has a lot more to offer than just groovy dance numbers.

Dance and Music form the backbone of the film. The dance sequences are dynamic and infused with emotion, while the music strikes a balance between catchy and soulful, perfectly complementing the narrative. There is a dance sequence that comes at a crucial point in the film, where you see Abhishek taking on the Potraj avatar and performing the Kadak Lakshmi dance form. It is a difficult dance form but Abhishek does it convincingly, evoking the right emotions.

The film also scores high on emotional resonance. Be Happy portrays the tender father-daughter bond in a relatable and heartwarming way to appeal to audiences of all ages.

What's not?

The storyline gets predictable after a point. While the emotional core is strong, the plot follows a well-trodden path. The director excels in highlighting the emotional scenes, the rest of the film, including the dance sequences, are presented in a rather plain manner. There is not one moment that inspires awe. From a dance drama, directed by one of the most loved and ace choreographers, I was expecting more. Also, I wonder why Harnaaz Sandhu was even taken in the film. It is not about the length of the role but the impact of it. She is a terrific actress and why take her onboard and not give her even one good scene? This was an absolute injustice to her talent.

Verdict

Be Happy is a feel-good family entertainer that celebrates the power of dreams. It shines through its heartfelt performances and emotional depth. A delightful watch that will leave audiences inspired, teary eyed and smiling - all at the same time.
