The latest quarterly earnings report for Sony reveals Astro Bot has sold 1.5 million copies during its first nine weeks on the market, as of 3rd November 2024. This means it has already outperformed the lifetime sales of Demon's Souls (1.4 million), Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (1.1 million), and Returnal (560,000).
What makes the stat more interesting is the fact that Sony considers 37 per cent of those 1.5 million buyers to be "new users". According to the firm, a "new user" is someone who hasn't purchased any other first-party game in the past two years, but did choose to pick up Astro Bot. As such, the platforming robot brought back over one-third of Sony's first-party audience who skipped the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Stellar Blade.
