ComingSoon can exclusively reveal a new featurette for The Uprising. The movie stars Andrew Garfield, who shared his insights on the movie’s most “vengeful” character in the new behind-the-scenes clip.
In The Uprising, Jamie Bell plays the historical figure John Ball, an English priest and prominent figure in the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. Praising Bell’s character, Garfield said, “Jamie Bell plays John Ball in such a visceral and impassioned way. And you can’t help but be inspired by these rabble-rousing speeches that he gives.”
The actor’s portrayal of Ball was inspired by the director’s personal take on the historical figure. In the featurette, director Paul Greengrass revealed, “John Ball is often so romanticized in the history books as a kind of socialist priest. I wanted to make him darker and more of a vengeful figure.”
Moreover, regarding his character, Bell commented that priests of the time were the closest people could get to God. He added, “It was the way that people understood God. So, to many people, John Ball is a great influence.”
Check out the official featurette below.
