The last few scenes of Andor Season 2 Episode 12 are both tragic and uplifting.

It depicts that Adria Arjona’s Bix Caleen has returned to the farms of Mina-Rau and has a child with her. It is easy to deduce that this is Bix’s child with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. In a recent interview, series creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy discussed why he decided to give this particular ending to Bix and Cassian and why Bix left Andor in earlier episodes.
Tony Gilroy explains Bix’s baby was the real reason she leaves Andor in Season 2
Gilroy spoke about why he gave a hopeful ending to Bix and Cassian in Andor, which serves as the prequel to Rogue One, in a new interview with ScreenRant. Those who have seen the 2016 Star Wars feature will know that Cassian dies toward the end of the movie. His last scene in Andor depicts him setting off for the Ring of Kafrene to meet Tivik, an encounter that makes up the character’s introductory scene in Rogue One.
The filmmaker revealed that he knew Cassian and Bix’s ending when he started sketching Season 2. He added, “And there’s a shadow over the show, and I just knew, not dramatically but personally, there had to be a legitimate hope at the end of this thing, or it was really… not abusive, but just wrong. There has to be a candle in the window, or what’s the point of getting up in the morning?”
Bix left Cassian in Episode 9 of the sophomore season. In a message she left behind for him, she explained that she couldn’t be the reason why he deserted the Rebellion. The series finale indicates that she left Cassian because she was pregnant at the time. Gilroy confirms this during the interview. He elaborated, “It’s a complicated idea… I really wanted to underline it for anybody who was doubtful about it. When they get to the end, they go, ‘Oh my God, she was pregnant. That’s why she’s leaving. Really? That’s what she’s not saying? Oh my God.’”
All episodes of Andor are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
