2026’s Academy Awards were a largely predictable ceremony with one surprise. While One Battle After Another and Sinners cleaned up with the accolades, Weapons squeaked out a highly deserved award for Amy Madigan following her astounding performance in Zach Cregger’s horror film. Weapons did not have as many sweeping nominations as the others. Despite being the David against the Goliaths of bigger budget films, Madigan earned her award as the harrowing villain, Aunt Gladys. Unsettling in appearance as well as her actions, Madigan's performance had no equal as the parasitic witch feeding on the youth.
