American Horror Story Season 13 First Look Finally Brings Jessica Lange Back After 8 Years

American Horror Story‘s first-look images with Jessica Lange have been released. After 8 years, the star will be featured in the FX horror series’ thirteenth season. Her last appearance on the show was in 2018, reprising her original role.

The first-look images of American Horror Story’s Season 13 were recently released. Among them was the image of the show’s veteran, Jessica Lange. In the image, she is dressed as the character from her previous role in the show, Constance Langdon, donning the familiar hairstyle.

Langdon is one of the central characters in AHS, from Season 1, “Murder House.” Lange’s first appearance as the character was in the first season, which aired on October 5, 2011. However, in 2018, she reprised her role as Langdon for two episodes of the eighth season, Apocalypse.

However, in between, the actress also took on other roles in the series across various seasons. These include Sister Jude Martin in Season 2, Fiona Goode in Season 3, and Elsa Mars in Season 4. The star’s return to the franchise was first teased in April 2026, when the show’s co-creator shared a picture of the actress on Instagram.

Why Jessica Lange walked away from American Horror Story after Season 4

Jessica Lange was one of the core cast members of the American Horror Story franchise. But after playing four different roles across the first four seasons, the star did not star in the show for over a decade, except for the brief 2018 appearance.

The reason behind this was that the actress was ready to retire in 2023. In an old interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actress mentioned that she is “coming to the end of acting.” However, she did work on other projects post-2023, including Long Day’s Journey Into Night and The Great Lillian Hall.

Moreover, the American actress was only supposed to star in one season of the Murphy show, but it turned into four seasons, making her a fan favorite. Before Season 13’s production, Murphy knew that the show’s star had to be a part of it.

In the interview with Vogue, he said, “I just thought the number 13 was infused with so much stuff in the horror genre, and I wanted to do a greatest hits season. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica.”

Season 13 of American Horror Story will premiere on FX and Hulu on September 24, 2026.
