All iPhone owners must check for important update now as Apple warns of ‘extremely sophisticated attack’

IPHONE owners have been urged to check their handsets for an important update.

Apple has not only warned iPhone users, but also those with an iPad, Mac or the Apple Vision Pro.

The issue involves WebKit, which is the web browser engine behind Safari, Mail, App Store, and other Apple apps.

The tech giant first addressed the vulnerability a year ago in iOS 17.2.

But it was now issuing a “supplementary fix” for iOS 18.

The bug could allow hackers to create malicious web content able to “break out” of the system.

Apple warned it’s “aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 17.2”.

The update is available for the following devices:

iPhone XS and later iPad Pro 13-inch iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later iPad Air 3rd generation and later iPad 7th generation and later iPad mini 5th generation and later MacOS Sequoia Apple Vision Pro

Sylvain Cortes, from cyber security firm Hackuity, said: “The flaw poses a significant risk to users of older versions of the operating system, particularly those released before iOS 17.2.

“We highly encourage users to update their devices to iOS 18.3.2 as soon as possible to maintain the security and privacy of their data.

“Keeping devices up to date with the latest software ensures protection from both known and emerging vulnerabilities.”

How to update your iPhone now

The best way to ensure your iPhone is up-to-date with the latest version of iOS is by having updates automatically switched on.

That way, whenever an update is released, it’ll be installed on your device overnight.

However, if you want to install it right away you can do so manually.

Just follow these simple steps:

Go to Settings Tap on General Select Software Update See if an update is available now – if so, tap the Update Now button
