The case involving Nicole Piper’s (Sammy T Dobson) sister Cassie (Charlie Ann Upton) is the focus in Casualty this week, as a team of doctors and nurses attempt to reach a decision on what to do about her care.
Cassie is declared brain stem dead, which means there has been an irreversible and permanent loss of all brain stem functions. The discussion of whether or not to withdraw her life support causes huge problems for Flynn Byron (Olly Rix). His emotions see him clash with other members of his team, but it’s later revealed why he feels so connected to the case.
Alongside this, Nicole heads to Newcastle to meet her biological mother. It is an incredibly overwhelming experience for her, as she tries to find out why she was placed into care.
Elsewhere, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) is dealing with the aftermath of Sunny Callahan’s (Jamie Marie Leary) confession about her being responsible for the drugs crisis. He hopes that she will do the right thing and speak to the police, but Sunny is in far too deep – a simple request from Rash may not be enough.
Emotional scenes lie ahead this week. Here’s what’s coming up.
Flynn meets a face from his past

With Cassie’s mum Vicky missing, Flynn has been acting as an Advocate for her. When Vicky returns, Flynn has to update her on Cassie, and confirms the latest prognosis isn’t good. He decides to flirt with ICU’s Doctor Lauren as a distraction, but is thrown when she reveals that he knows her from somewhere and doesn’t remember.
Cassie’s tests declare her legally dead, also called brain stem dead, and Flynn is gutted. The team have a meeting, and Flynn is reluctant to agree to the idea of turning Cassie’s life support off. He clashes with Dylan Keogh (William Beck), who is thrown when Flynn refers to Vicky as Claire, his ex partner.
After taking his anger out on a reporter hassling Rash, Flynn speaks to Doctor Lauren and confirms that he remembers her now. We discover that Lauren’s first patient who had life support withdrawn was Flynn and Claire’s baby son.
Meanwhile, frustrated by Flynn’s behaviour, Dylan looks into his medical record and learns about little Joseph. In ICU, Dylan supports Flynn as he finally grieves. He breaks down and admits that he blames himself for not giving Claire more time to say goodbye before the machines were switched off.
Flynn decides to be with Vicky and Nicole as Cassie’s life support is withdrawn.
Nicole’s mum fails to recognise her

Nicole arrives at her mother’s house in Newcastle. When Tina opens the door, she thinks her daughter is a district nurse. Nicole plays along and tends to a lady called Ruth, under the impression she is Tina’s mum.
Being inside the house causes flashbacks for Nicole, as she recalls being locked inside a room surrounded by needles, suggesting she was put in care because Tina was a drug addict. She also remembers her beloved toy hippo.
Before Nicole can get any answers, Tina discovers she lied about who she is. She throws Nicole out of the house, despite her confessing her identity.
On the phone, Nicole learns from Ngozi (Adesuwa Oni) that Cassie’s condition has deteriorated. Nicole wants to rush back to Holby, but Ngozi encourages her to stay in Newcastle overnight.
The next day, Nicole returns to Tina’s house. She is let inside, and discovers that Tina is diabetic, not a drug addict. Nicole also learns that she was placed in care because Tina’s husband was abusive and violent.
Nicole feels for her mum, but is gutted to discover that Tina could’ve taken her back from the care system and didn’t. To really twist the knife, Nicole also learns that Tina went on to marry again and has other children.
Tina reveals that she kept Nicole’s toy hippo all these years, but she realises that she doesn’t need a relationship with her mum and heads back to Holby. At the hospital, Nicole is welcomed by Vicky and they say goodbye to Cassie. Afterwards, the ED team rally around Nicole to support her.
Rash urges Sunny to do the right thing

Rash receives a visiting order from Sunny in prison, and is made to feel guilty when he hears that she hasn’t told the police about what she knows regarding the gang.
Rash tries to distance himself from Sunny’s crimes. He insists that he’s fine after he’s hassled by a reporter, but struggles when he learns of Cassie’s declining condition.
He heads to see Sunny and hopes she will change her mind, but Rash is disappointed when she says that she is sorry for what happened, but won’t speak to the police because of the impact it may have on her family.
