If you ask the average person to name the first Frank Capra movie that comes to mind when they hear his name (assuming they know who the hell he is, of course), they're probably going to say It’s a Wonderful Life. That one is the Christmas movie to which all other Christmas movies are compared, encompassing everything about the holiday period in an approachable and timeless film that’ll move even those with the hardest of hearts. If we’re talking about Capra and the Oscars, though, It’s a Wonderful Life was not one of his biggest winners. In fact, it didn’t win anything in the official categories (it did get a Technical Achievement Award), though it was nominated for five Oscars, and two of those nominations went to Capra: Best Director and Best Picture.
