Noah Hawley, the creator and showrunner of Alien: Earth, gave a promising update on the prospects of Season 2 after Season 1 concluded on a cliffhanger. Alien: Earth is the first live-action series in the Alien franchise. It premiered on FX and FX on Hulu on August 12, 2025.
Noah Hawley says Alien: Earth Season 2 is being discussed
At the time of this article’s composition, FX hasn’t released any statement on the status of Alien: Earth Season 2. However, Hawley confirmed during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that there have been discussions about it. When asked about the current state of Season 2, Hawley said, “We’re certainly having conversations about it, and I’ve been thinking on the creative front. It was very encouraging, the success of the show globally, and FX is very deliberate in their process.”
The screenwriter explained that he believed the reason FX has been so successful is that “they don’t spend more than the show can realize in its return value.” He continued, “Part of it is not just, ‘Are we gonna make more?’ but, ‘Are we gonna make more at what price and what’s the timeline for it?’ So all those factors are being discussed, but I don’t have a timeline for you.”
The absence of a set timeline for the release date for Alien: Earth Season 2 might disappoint some fans. However, Hawley confirmed in the interview that the series had a multi-seasonal plan from the beginning. “We always discussed it as a recurring series,” he elaborated. “I have a sense of where the journey goes in the long run, but I don’t necessarily know how long it’ll take me to get there.”
According to Hawley, they have “a huge story to explore,” while keeping in mind that they have to adhere to the timeline of the movies. He added, “So there’s some creative constraints that can often be helpful in terms of it’s not completely open ended.”
All eight episodes of Alien: Earth are currently streaming on FX on Hulu.
