Alexander Isak is reportedly ‘open’ to a move to London this summer as Arsenal and Chelsea eye moves for the Newcastle United striker.

Isak has enjoyed another impressive season at St James’ Park, scoring 27 goals and helping Newcastle end their trophy wait by winning the Carabao Cup.

The 25-year-old’s form has also given Newcastle a huge chance of qualifying for the Champions League, with Eddie Howe’s side sitting fourth with three games remaining.

Isak is viewed as a dream transfer target by many clubs but Newcastle maintain he is not for sale and will want at least £100m to part ways with one of the best players in Europe.

The Sweden international is believed to be Mikel Arteta’s dream target as he looks to sign a new striker and take Arsenal to the next level this season.

Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain condemned the Gunners to a fifth successive season without a trophy.

Arteta’s side could finish second in the Premier League for the third season in a row but it is widely accepted that a prolific goalscorer could turn Arsenal into title contenders, both domestically and in Europe.

BBC Sport say Isak has ‘almost universal backing’ from those behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium despite the fact a deal could wipe out the majority of the club’s transfer budget for the summer.

Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are also of interest to the Gunners and represent cheaper alternatives to Isak, who cost Newcastle United over £60m in 2022.

The report from the BBC adds that Isak is ‘open’ to a move to the English capital despite being content at Newcastle and the possibility of interest from elsewhere, including Premier League champions Liverpool.

Isak’s willingness to move to London could also be welcome news to Chelsea, who intend to sign a new striker this summer and have shown interest in the Magpies talisman.

Current Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson scored 17 goals across his first season at Stamford Bridge but looks set to fall short of that figure this season, having struggled with form and fitness issues.

The Blues have also expressed interest in Liam Delap, who has a release clause of £30m, and Victor Osimhen, who they almost signed last summer before the Nigerian joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.

Isak would fire Arsenal to Premier League title

Paul Merson has claimed Arsenal will ‘win the Premier League by ten points’ next season if they manage to prise Isak away from Newcastle.

‘Alexander Isak is expected to attract interest from a few clubs this summer,’ Merson told Sportskeeda.

‘But I feel like he could play the waiting game before he decides on his future. Newcastle could be playing Champions League football next season and have already tasted silverware.

‘Let’s not forget that they are a big club and if they qualify for the Champions League, they are an attractive project to be a part of for any player.

‘I think Isak surely wants to be involved in the Champions League next season and that could play a key role here.

‘Arsenal seem like the best possible move for him if he leaves Newcastle though. If the Gunners get him, they will win the league by 10 points!’

Isak, who is contracted to Newcastle until 2028, has scored 62 goals in 107 appearances for the Magpies and is the second-top goalscorer in the Premier League this season.
