Alan Ritchson is riding high on streaming, but the big screen is telling a different story. His action-thriller has managed just $13.1 million worldwide since opening on September 11. It is the second theatrical disappointment of his 2026 run, even as his flagship series pulls in record numbers for Amazon.

Runner isn’t making any waves at box office

Runner, starring Alan Ritchson, has collected $11.9 million domestically, which accounts for 91.2% of its total haul, while international audiences have added only $1.2 million, or 8.8%, pushing the worldwide total to $13.1 million. For a wide theatrical release built around two recognizable leads, those numbers point to a movie that never found its footing with ticket buyers.

The muted opening is notable given the timing. Ritchson stars as a courier racing to deliver a liver for a life-saving transplant, teaming up with Owen Wilson’s character while a crime syndicate tries to seize the organ for itself. Despite a premise built for tension and a co-lead with broad name recognition, the film has struggled to translate any of that into ticket sales.

Critics were not unkind to the movie. It landed generally positive reviews and an early Rotten Tomatoes score in the high 60s, putting it among the better-reviewed titles in Ritchson’s filmography. But strong reviews have not been enough to pull audiences into theaters, and the box office numbers have continued to slide rather than build momentum in the weeks after release.

This is the second time in 2026 that a Ritchson-led theatrical film has underperformed. Earlier, his dialogue-light revenge thriller, Motor City, opened domestically against a $30 million budget and managed only a few million dollars at the box office before shifting to digital platforms. That film, too, drew respectable reviews but simply could not get moviegoers into seats. All in all, the gap between his streaming pull and his theatrical numbers is becoming a recurring theme in his career this year.

For now, Runner’s box office trajectory looks unlikely to recover given Resident Evil is dominating the charts.
