Kalen DeBoer rolls into his second season, and before long, he will need to replace his QB Jalen Milroe. It’s not that the former Washington head coach hasn’t got options; in fact, he has got three. But not one of them has been tested against the rigors of the game. However, before you think the competition for the QB1 spot looks intense, listen to the head coach: “It’s a healthy competition because their character is elite.” But whatever, Kalen DeBoer says, only one QB is emerging – courtesy of Arch Manning‘s storied family.
QB battle at Alabama was always going to go to the last wire, especially between Ty Simpson and Austin Mack. After all, Ty Simpson, the red-shirt junior, was a five-star recruit of the 2022 class and had learned behind both Milroe and Bryce Young. Mack, on the other hand, had just come off from Washington and was personally recruited by now Alabama OC Ryan Grubb, and thus still has an incredible relationship.
Grubb couldn’t even hold back praise for Austin Mack after the team entered the second week of spring practices. “Kind of the thought there was, when we got Austin at Washington, was that he would have six months with Mike Penix and kind of see how it’s supposed to be done. I certainly think he’s gravitated to that. It looks like he’s matured a lot and I’m excited to be with him.” This relationship with the OC and familiarity with the system sometimes favored Mack in the battle. But now? Ty Simpson might have some leverage after all.
As per recent reports by Ryan C Fowler posted on X, Ty Simpson has been invited to the Manning Passing Academy this June in Thibodaux, Louisiana. He wrote, “This is an incredible event and a huge opportunity for Ty Simpson to be coached by the Manning family throughout the camp and to mentor future quarterbacks.” Personally coached by the three Mannings (Peyton, Eli, and Archie)? That’s exactly what QBs like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson also did, and we all know what the end result is.

For the less versed, Manning Passing Academy was started in 1996 to coach top high school QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs of the country by none other than Arch Manning’s grandfather, Archie Manning, a Saints legend. Since then, all three Mannings have organized the event every year and have sent invitations to the top QBs in high schools and colleges to teach their craft. Just last year, more than 45 QBs attended the academy, and this year, many more are expected to attend, besides Ty Simpson.
Arch Manning gets concerning update on his ‘Manning’ legacy?
We all know that Mannings are one of the biggest names in the sporting industry in the world. After Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning, Arch Manning is the legacy holder and is constantly under the eyes of the media. But what if Arch is seen without the lens of being a ‘Manning’ but just another 5-star QB in football?

Kayce Smith, the host of the Unnecessary Roughness podcast, explored a similar question. “If he is somehow a bust, I feel like that would be one of the biggest busts, and I’m talking about college, not in the NFL. It’s like what lies we’re being sold, just because his last name is Manning“. That said, the host did say that the odds of young Arch being a bust are absolutely negligible.
“Take his last name off the Jersey, everything that we’ve heard, and that we’ve seen from a tape standpoint thus far, is that he’s pretty f****** good“. Said Kayce. Well, last year, we saw the QB showing his brilliance when Quinn Ewers got injured, as he produced 1,000+ total passing and rushing yards and appeared in 10 games. This season? The player will undoubtedly have a stern test being a starter, but considering his quality, it would not be that difficult.
