Aishwarya Rai moves Delhi HC seeking personality rights, 'Name misused, morphed AI images circulated’

Many celebrities have raised concern over misuse of their pictures and videos with the use of technology. The latest one is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress moved to Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality rights. The actress has alleged that there are several websites that are misusing her name and pictures without any authorisation. As per a report in Mint.com, a petition was filed against websites like aishwaryaworld.com and other infringers who are using her persona without authorisation.

Court to issue interim injunctions

As per the report, Justice Tejas Karia has stated that a written order will be issued restraining the portals from using Aishwarya Rai's name and pictures in turn protecting her rights. Though the next hearing is scheduled for January, it is reported that the court may grant interim injunctions.

What did Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's advocate say?

As reported by India Today, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi on behalf of Aishwarya Rai, argued in court that her likeness was being exploited without her consent. He even demonstrated screenshots from YouTube saying that it is very unfortunate. He said, "These are never images belonging to Aishwarya Rai. Neither she has authorised such images. All AI generated. Some intimate photographs which are completely unreal. Her name and likeness is used to satisfy someone's sexual desires. Very unfortunate." He also mentioned that her pictures were being used on coffee mugs and other merchandise without her consent. It was also pointed out that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name was used in fraudulent schemes even though she had no connection with the entity.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Ponniyin Selvan: II directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie was the highest grossing Tamil film. She played the role of Nandini - a Chola Queen in this two part film. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hasn't announced her next film as yet. Though Aishwarya is away from screen, her appearances at various international fashion galas has kept her in news.
