Last week, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin had fans in their feelings. The Hall of Famer casually stirred the pot with a nod to the good old days. Those glorious ‘90s seasons when Dallas ruled the league and won three Lombardi trophies. When Irvin would do his thing on the field, confetti would fall like Texas rain. It’s been 30 years now, and things haven’t been quite the same. No championship, no parades down Main Street, and certainly no ring-crafting celebrations in Dallas.

So when Irvin hinted at a comeback, however playful it was, fans couldn’t help but lean in. Of course, they knew he wasn’t lacing up the cleats for real, but when a legend speaks, people listen. And if nothing else, it brought back some sweet memories from a time when America’s Team actually lived up to the title. After teasing a potential comeback, Irvin kept the hype going with an IG reel on Saturday.

Hey, after getting so many calls about my return to the NFL, I’m going to go out today and run some slant routes. So I had to put on them old 88s right there, baby, to go see if I could still run that slant route,” he said in the video. The video had Michael showing off his fit in front of a mirror. Irvin was seen rocking a clean white fit -white t-shirt, shorts, and snapback cap. To complete the look the 3x Super Bowl champion wore his custom white and silver Nike kicks with his jersey number, 88, proudly displayed.

Michael had earlier teased fans about his comeback last Thursday in a six-word message. The former wideout posted a mirror selfie from the gym. And captioned it, “If we @dallascowboys need a receiver!!!!!!!!!!

Interestingly, Irvin’s comeback teases are coming at a time when Dallas is seriously looking for a receiver. Someone who could become QB Dak Prescott’s key weapon. So, even though fans knew it was all in good fun, seeing the five-time Pro Bowler talk about a comeback stirred up some excitement.

Michael Irvin rides waves after teasing comeback

Well, after reigniting memories of championship-winning years and getting fans’ hopes up, Irvin took a completely different route. The 59-year-old wasn’t suited up for running slant routes, but rather for cruising through the vast sea waves. That’s right, the former WR shared a video on Saturday of himself enjoying a luxurious time on his boat. Irvin was relaxing over the weekend, riding the waves, vibing to Travis Scott’s 4×4, and catching up on an NBA game on his iPad while steering his boat.

After all the gym workout sessions and showing off his well-defined abs, it was all about riding the waves. Well, it looks like the legend still has some tricks up his sleeve, even if he’s not lacing up for another season. As much as fans love those Irvin-led 90s decades, it’s hard not to think about the end of the 20th century when an injury ended the wideout’s career abruptly. Even now, his admirers wonder if that injury hadn’t happened, Michael would have had more years of slant routes. And maybe even more championships. But despite the way things ended, Irvin’s legacy still looms large in Cowboys history.

So, while Irvin’s comeback tease felt good, the Cowboys better get to work finding a real receiver for QB Dak Prescott. Right now, the team relies almost entirely on CeeDee Lamb, and that’s not how championships are won. Dallas didn’t pick a single receiver in the draft. But Jerry Jones has hinted that the team might look for one in free agency.

So, unless Michael Irvin’s about to step into a time machine and suit up for real, the Cowboys might want to speed things up. Because that Lombardi drought isn’t going to end itself.
